The next S&OP Excel Template is here!!! The fourth release in the S&OP Excel Template series is an important report that helps evaluate Budget vs. Plan. One of the main questions the executive team will always ask in the S&OP process is the variance between budget and plan. It is important to understand why the most up to date information is showing a new outcome and help the executive team evaluate the situation to turn things around. To learn more about this topic please see a previous blog I released, Sales and Operations Planning versus Budgeting, is there a difference? Does it matter?
Once again I have to mention how excited we all are at DemandCaster for the growing popularity of the S&OP Excel Template series. If you have not seen any of our previous releases please click on the images below or your can simply subscribe to the series by completing the subscription form at the top right side-bar on this page.

Everyone on the DemandCaster team is grateful for the support we are receiving from this template series and before we get in to our latest template, Budget vs. Plan, we would like to take a moment to once again mention DemandCasters Custom Reporting feature, which inspired the release of the S&OP Excel Template Series.
S&OP Excel Template series brought to you by DemandCaster
DemandCaster Custom Reporting is a report engine that leverages Microsoft Excel. It allows users to pull all the data that exists in DemandCaster and use that data to create custom reports and dashboards using user designed templates that can produce an array of outputs, from graphs to pivot tables and allows for the inclusion of macros. The templates we are sharing in this series of S&OP Excel Templates all work with the DemandCaster custom reporting tool. The result is your Excel dashboards can be downloaded out of the system at any time with the most up to date data without the fear of any calculation or link breaking. In addition, the data can be posted to other data tables on a scheduled basis allowing users to use services such a Tableau or other reporting services. The report may also be emailed to dedicated users on a scheduled basis. You can find out more information on custom reporting by Clicking Here. Below are a few slides to show you how quick and simple this feature is to use and setup with your Microsoft Excel templates.
[metaslider id=1363]Annual Budget vs. Plan Report
This template was designed to be user friendly and contains a detailed set of instructions, preview below:
[metaslider id=1389]The purpose of this template is to provide a means to load your current years Budget, Plan, and Actuals to visually see how your company is tracking against the established budget. This is an important chart for executives to view as they work to understand the performance of the plan against its updated reality. This becomes the starting point to review variance against the budget and attempt to address the root cause of over or under performance.
This chart helps you visualize on a monthly basis your budget vs. plan, as well as budget to actuals for the months that have already occurred. The table below the chart shows you the numbers on a monthly basis including the variance and variance %.
Required Data:
- Current Annual Budget In Dollars
- Updated demand plan in dollars for remainder of fiscal year
- Actuals in dollars for the current year
